What if I can't change it?
Nothing is sandblasted, engraved, or laser-etched until you've signed off on the design. Your approval is mandatory — not a formality.

Tyler Thacker and our team in Portsmouth do everything ourselves: the design consultations, the sandblasting, the laser etching, the engraving, and the countertop fabrication and installation. We don't hand your project off. We don't outsource. We take personal responsibility for every piece that leaves this shop.

How do I order a headstone or memorial in Portsmouth, Ohio?

How long does it take to make and install a memorial headstone?
Timelines vary depending on the complexity of the design and current workload. During your consultation, we'll give you a realistic timeline specific to your project. Because we do everything in-house, we have direct control over the schedule — we're not waiting on an outside vendor.
Can I see headstones in person before ordering?
Yes — and we strongly encourage it. We keep a large on-site inventory of granite headstones in flat, slant, bevel, and upright styles. Seeing and touching the actual stone is far more helpful than photographs. Visit us Monday–Friday from 8am–4:30pm, or Saturday by appointment.
Do you require approval before starting work on a headstone?
Absolutely — your signed approval is required before any sandblasting, engraving, or laser etching begins. This is our firm policy because these are permanent changes to permanent stone. We won't start cutting until you've reviewed the design and signed off on every detail.
Do I need to come in for a countertop quote, or can I get a price by phone?
For countertops, all designs require a laser measurement appointment before we can provide an accurate quote. We schedule a visit to measure your space precisely — this prevents errors and ensures the fabricated stone fits perfectly. We won't quote blind because we won't risk giving you a number that isn't accurate.
What makes Cambria quartz different, and why does certification matter?
Cambria is an American-made, family-owned quartz surface brand known for its durability, color range, and lifetime warranty. Cambria requires certified installation to maintain that warranty. Portsmouth Monument Co. is the only Cambria Certified Installer and Retailer in the greater Scioto area, which means your installation is backed by Cambria's manufacturer standards — not just our word.
Do you do laser etching on things other than headstones?
Yes. We offer laser etching on granite, quartz, wood, glass, and metal. This includes custom gifts, awards, signage, and decorative pieces — not just memorials. If you have a project in mind, call us and we'll let you know what's possible.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, personal check, and invoice. Note that both memorials and countertops must be paid in full prior to installation.
